A growing toolkit for making science more beautiful, inlcuding graphic design and photography.
Making posters is one of my favorite forms of science art, but I know the process can be intimidating. I've created a few templates for use with Affinity Designer, although they should work across any vector editing program. Feel free to tweak them as much or as little as you want!
Most scientists are never taught how to give an elevator pitch, design slides, outline presentations, or field questions! For the Bren school at UCSB, I taught ESM 438: Presentation Skills for Environmental Professionals. Feel free to use the materials for self-learning or teaching.
I've always spent a little too much time making methods flowcharts. Over time, I realized that my collection of science icons was pretty extensive and I decided to share them with others. Feel free to download and edit any or all of them. Happy to take requests for new additions.
High resolution images for personal branding — like in slides, posters, or websites — can be hard to find! I've compiled a few favorites that I think would be well suited for fellow oceanographers. Please note that these are only for personal use, not commercial.
Making a personal scientific website doesn't need to be expensive. I took everything I learned from making this site and created a guide that walks you through each step of the process, from getting a domain to HTML template choices to linking to Github to launching via Netlify.
The AAAS Fellowship is an incredible opportunity to learn about a career in science policy after a PhD. I applied to and received the congressional and executive branches and have my application materials available for reference. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
